I took a little square sketchbook with me everywhere. It was a small enough format that I could sketch standing up, and I used it for notes too. Cartridge paper, so can't take too much water, but it's surprisingly resilient. And I'm glad I brought my Degas casein fixative, as I used soft pastels in the book too. All sketches done on location from direct observation, apart from the first two pages. Just didn't have the energy after the 5-hour drive, but still wanted to record some of my impressions.
Explored in monochrome on many pages, with a Pilot Parallel Pen and a stick of water-soluble graphite. But reverted to colour at times when I felt the need.
