Plate of cakes

Catching up on my blogging now that my flu is gone, that my trip to Venice was cancelled, and that the snow is melting in Dublin!

This one was one of the last exercises in Liz Steel's Sketching Now Watercolour online course. The cakes are not real. Well, I mean I drew them from a photograph. But it didn't make them any easier to sketch and paint. The goal of this exercise was to start with darks. Something that goes completely against the grain for watercolour artists. But surprisingly effective, I have to say. A sure way of avoiding a wishy-washy watercolour!
