But mostly working on light and dark and values, and reserving whites.
For that purpose, I did a pencil drawing first. I chose another photo from Takayama, of an old house or warehouse across the canal (which you can't see because of the high walls). I'm not sure this will ever make it into a painting, but I enjoyed exploring the warm shine of the wood, along with the dark shadow under the roof. Every sketch or painting is something new learned.
