Digging for coal maybe. But there's definitely soot in this ink I was using. An old bottle of Noodler's ink, which I never particularly liked for sketching. But it's doing magic when I flush it with water. I was just experimenting, but all of a sudden, the landscape emerged. And I couldn't stop playing! First two on Hahnemuhle Cornwall Hot Press, and the last one one Fabriano Unica printing paper. All of a sudden, it feels like a door has opened onto another world.
But then, I remember there was a controversy about Noodler's ink a few years ago, and when I look it up, I find that the owner is a far-right conspiracy-theorist. So, I won't be buying his ink again. I'm just going to have to test other brands!
