Sketching Lyon - Day 2

On the Friday morning, first day of the USk Lyon 2025 event, which I will call Day 2 for me, I wanted to sketch the Roman amphitheater on top of the hill. I mean, how often in my life will I get the opportunity to do that? I had the place to myself, with a sketcher across the way, and a class of young students reciting and acting from their history lessons about the Roman Empire and its presence in Lugdunum, as Lyon was known then.

Then it was time for a little break. Had a lovely quiet time with Annah and got to try her special Koh-i-noor colour pencils!

When I was done, I walked down the street, and I simply had to sketch the funicular as it leaves its station at the bottom of the hill. It goes every few minutes, so it was a case of catching it for the 3 seconds it appeared into my field of vision, and then continuing with the rest of the sketch. There was a van there too. They were packing up, but I managed to fit it in before they left. When I was done, I turned around 90 degrees and there was an interesting statue on the corner of the building. It had no hands, and there was an interesting stone sticking out on the opposite street corner.

Time for a refreshing drink. And interesting opinions by the Latvian bar owner. No wonder business was slow.

The first throwdown was cancelled due to a heavy shower. I have photos of the big clouds over the city that might inspire some paintings. But that was essentially it for the day.
