The Outlander is Gil Adamson's first novel. The story of a young woman on the run, it's got its ups and downs. It got great reviews, and I can see why - it's a good story, written in beautiful language. And I loved the end (I'll say no more). But I found the story unevenly paced - great speed and suspense in parts, and a slow, settled flow for a large section of it, which didn't appeal to me as much.
It's worth the read, certainly, but it didn't quite meet my high expectations after reading the reviews.
