O'Connell Street

I was on the 1st floor (some of you might say second floor) of a building across the junction of this building on O'Connell Street, as it was a miserable day in town. Supermacs (an Irish burger chain) was noisy with children on a Sunday afternoon, but it was certainly warmer than outside. I worked out the big shapes in watercolour first, in particular the narrow part of the building facing the corner, then approximated the angles at top and bottom on both sides. Then the floors. After that, I worked in lines. Then added all the windows (It nearly drove me mad!). And a crowd of people, some waiting, some crossing the street.

My favourite part is probably the trees.

I added the sky and a wash for the adjacent buildings after I got home.

The people sketches on the next page were done from the same location. I know, they look like they were right across from me. I need to figure out how to draw people from above! But I think I managed to convey the big jackets and scarves. It was a blustery day.

This is as it was when I left the location.
