I've tried to create a sense of calm in the distance with a soft value range, then move things forward with stronger darks in the middle- and foreground. Maybe a bit too much when it comes to the water to the right of the painting? Still, I'm happy with the overall effect!

Summer on the river
Another little painting from a photo - I think this is a photo Brendan took last summer. When I'm painting in watercolour, I'm always obsessed with clouds and water. Completely different subjects from my urban sketches. Sign of a fickle mind? Or a polymath? Well, maybe something in between those two extremes. I don't think I'm either!
